Midye — The Sea’s Humble Gift

Midye — The Sea’s Humble Gift

No stroll along an Antalya harbour is complete without a cone of midye dolma. The humble mussel is one of the most sustainable, flavour-packed foods the sea offers us.

In the Mediterranean

Mediterranean mussels grow in dense beds along the coast, filtering the clean water around them. They are among the most environmentally friendly seafood you can eat — filter feeders that actually improve water quality.

Flavour & Texture

Briny, mineral and faintly sweet, mussels bring the pure taste of the sea. They cook in minutes and release a fragrant, salty liquor that is the base of countless classic dishes.

How we serve it at Antalya Balik

  • Midye dolma — stuffed with spiced rice, currants and pine nuts, served with lemon.
  • Tava — pan-steamed with white wine, garlic and parsley.
  • Pilaki — braised with tomatoes, carrots and olive oil, served cold.
Sustainability note: Mussels need no feed and leave the sea cleaner than they found it — a genuine win for the ocean.
