Ahtapot — Eight Arms of Flavour

Ahtapot — Eight Arms of Flavour

A perfectly tender, char-kissed ahtapot (octopus) is one of the great pleasures of the Mediterranean table — smoky, succulent and full of character.

In the Mediterranean

Common octopus live among rocks and seagrass beds, hunted by small-boat fishermen using traditional pots and lines. They are intelligent, fast-growing and, when sourced carefully, a responsible choice.

Flavour & Texture

Octopus is lean and savoury, with a firm-but-tender bite when properly prepared. The secret is patience — it must be tenderised (traditionally by beating against the rocks) and slow-cooked before a final char.

How we serve it at Antalya Balik

  • Ahtapot ızgara — slow-cooked, then char-grilled with olive oil and vinegar.
  • Salata — warm octopus salad with arugula, lemon and capers.
  • Buğulama — braised in its own juices with white wine and herbs.
Patience pays: we slow-cook our octopus for over an hour before it ever touches the grill.
